Realistic Cartoon Characters

At one point or another in our lives we’ve all appreciated cartoon characters. Whether they were in childhood shows and films or something more adult (not that kind of adult), cartoons allow us to experience stories that normal actors just can’t achieve, be it because of physical limitations or cost.
But what if our favorite cartoon characters were made to look more…realistic?  Here are some of my favorite images of realistic cartoon characters.

Beavis

Beavis
One half of MTV’s Beavis and Butt-head, he was known for turning into the character Cornholio after taking in too much caffeine.

Butt-Head

Butt-head
The other half of Beavis and Butt-head, he was abusive towards Beavis and really everybody around him.

Buzz Lightyear

Buzz Lightyear
Maybe it’s me, but I think he looks far less heroic when he’s drawn this way.

Calvin and Hobbes

Calvin and Hobbes

One of my childhood favorites, I’m glad the artist didn’t try to turn Hobbes into a real tiger for this piece.

Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown
People can say that the way Charlie Brown is drawn is supposed to imply that he has blonde hair, but renderings like this just drive home the fact that the most unfortunate boy ever is in fact bald.

Homer Simpson

Homer Simpson
Speaking of bald, it’s America’s favorite father.  He looks kinda…weird in flesh tones.

Jessica Rabbit

Jessica Rabbit
There’s nothing I can say that won’t come across as both weird and perverted.

Mario

Mario
Ah the stereotype for all Italian men.  Looks like chasing the Princess from castle to castle has given him crows feet.

Mr. Burns

Mr Burns
C. Montgomery Burns – he doesn’t look any less evil when you make him look more “human”.

Peter Griffin

Peter Griffin
Looks oddly the same in this rendering.

Popeye

Popeye
Being a sailor has not done this image of Popeye any favors.  What a rough looking man.

Shaggy

Shaggy
Another one that doesn’t really look all that different when rendered realistically.

South Park

South Park
Cartman, Kyle, Stan, and Kenny.  South Park is easily the smartest show on television and these four boys are a big reason why.  Would kinda like to see Butters drawn this way too.

Stan Smith

Stan Smith
Normally animated Stan just looks like he has a strong jaw, done like this and he looks like he has s terrible birth defect.

Stewie Griffin

Stewie Griffin
Everybody’s favorite animated baby.

Teletubbies

Teletubbies
They’ve raised their fair share of controversy through the years, but there’s no denying that this realistic take on them is….dark.  And yes I know they’re not cartoons, but they’re not exactly realistic either.

Tycho

Tycho
If you don’t read Penny Arcade you really should.  Tycho and Gabe speak on video games, movies, roll playing games, and all things nerd and geek related.
