Braille Neue: A Universal Typeface by Kosuke Takahashi That Combines Braille and Visible Characters

Japanese designer Kosuke Takahashi has created an ingenious font that merges different typefaces
to allow both sighted and blind readers to use the same text. Thinking ahead to Tokyo’s hosting
of the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, Takahashi shares on his website that he hopes his font will “create a truly universal space where anyone can access information.” Braille Neue is comprised
of two typesets: Braille Neue Standard, for the English alphabet, and Braille Neue Outline, which accommodates both Japanese and English visible characters and letters. Takahashi’s creation addresses two related problems.

Funny Relationship Moments When Expectations Face Reality

byRokas L

Romantic surprises help couples keep the spark burning but some of them act out better in our heads than in reality. Illustrator Jacob Andrews (previously here) has created 5 hilarious comics that perfectly sum up these passionate endeavors.

His series “Being Romantic: Expectation vs Reality” explores a couple, struggling to create tender, movie scene-worthy moments both privately and among other people. It’s worth mentioning, however, that often the success or failure of your attempt to create something special isn’t determined by the outcome, but rather by the way you perceive it. And there’s no better person to transform the mundane into the magic than your significant other.

HERAKLES

from: Mr. P's Mythopedia

When it comes to heroes in ancient Greece, none were more well known than HERAKLES (or as many of you know him, by his Roman name, Hercules!). He was like Superman, mixed with all of the Avengers, with the blood of Zeus himself running through his veins. Dozens of tales were told about Herakles' outrageous strength, battles with unbelievable supernatural creatures and even messing with the Olympians at almost every step of the way. His most famous exploits took place during the Twelve Labors, a time of atonement for the big guy after his step-mother, Hera, drove him nuts and magically brought him to murder his much-loved family. Twelve Big Tasks, each one more outlandish than the next, and each one something no mortal could ever hope to handle. Check out this amazing map by Simon E. Davies that shows the journeys of Herakles on his epic adventures to clear his name and soul!!!

How People With Different Types Of Color Blindness See The World

There’s more than one type of color blindness, but no matter what type someone has, color blindness dramatically alters the world around them.

This is what the world looks like through the eyes of someone who’s color blind.

Deuteranomalia is the most common form of color blindness. Around 4.63% of men suffer from it and in many cases don’t even realize. It’s clear from the photo that the colors have lost some of their brightness, especially with regard to green and red.

Protanopia is a less-widespread form of color blindness — only around 1% of men experience it.
All shades of green and red appear somewhat faded, whilst blue and yellow shades remain virtually unchanged.

Tritanopia is a very rare form of color blindness affecting men and women to an equally small degree. Those who experience it see the world in greenish pink tones.

As for total color blindness, it certainly exists, but it’s extremely rare: only 0.00003% of the world’s population has it.
