Stunning European Villages to Visit

Fjallbacka, Vastra Gotaland County, Sweden

The scenic fishing village of Fjallbacka serves as a departure point for people travelling to the Weather Islands. Only recently has the small town started to gain popularity, but it’s gaining fast and apparently the secret’s out! Fjallbacka is a haven for swimming and sailing, and dozens of multicolored houses along the coastline make it a very vibrant village.

Pitigliano, Province of Grosseto, Italy

Pitigliano is another village built on the edge of a cliff, only this one is surrounded by forests and beautiful Tuscan hills. The village dates all the way back 1061AD and still holds a lot of its history – in particular the Estruscan tombs, which locals now use to store wine.

Polperro, Cornwall, England

Cornwall is a very popular region for its many beautiful villages, but Polperro has to be one of the best in the bunch due to its narrow, winding streets and the fact that everything is pretty much built on top of each other up the steep hill so that a view of the harbor is available just about anywhere. Cars are not permitted within the village, making it a very quiet and peaceful town.

Hallstatt, Salzkammergut, Austria

Hallstatt is often referred to as one of the most beautiful places to visit in Europe, mainly for its scenery and history – the village was settled in prehistoric times and is situated on a lakeside at the foot of a breathtaking mountain. Anyone in need of honeymoon ideas… I think you’ve found your spot.

Wengen, Canton of Bern, Switzerland

No town is better used to describe a typical Alps village than the quaint little Swiss town of Wengen. Although the town’s daily population increases tenfold in winter for its exceptional skiing opportunities, in summer it can be quite a perfect little getaway that not many tourists have caught onto yet.
